Sophies Heart was created to offer hope and support services to children and their families affected by congenital heart defects. At the same time improving the quality of life for these children and promoting public awareness in our community.

Amy Castillo, Executive Director Bio:

As a mother and survivor of a Congenital Heart defect and having a child born with a CHD I know first hand the challenges a family will encounter both financially and emotionally in the first year of the child’s life. I have learned a great deal from my experiences with my daughter, this has allowed me to support other families while at the hospital provide emotional support through sharing my personal stories with new diagnosed babies and their families. I understand what these parents are going through and understand the needs of the entire family. As the founder of Sophies Heart I bring passion to the organization as well and a strength based services for supporting the entire family, not just the child born with a CHD.

 Sophia underwent 5 major heart surgeries and 6 years later, Sophie is a healthy happy little girl.  Sophia enjoys meeting other CHD families and showing her scar and talking to the kids.  She truly is an inspiration to all families who are struggling with the road ahead.  I tell families, look at her, she is proof that you can make it through this tough journey!
